So I wasn't going to make a video of a property that didn't cut the mustard.... But there were a couple sweet moments of awesomeness, that I thought I'd better put something together.
The qualities of this site that dropped it from the list were:
-Noise from the 401. It was actually very annoying. I'm suprised that anyone would choose to build a new property there. We don't even hear traffic at our house in the city.
-There were 2 gas lines that run right through the property. Don't really know what effect that would actually have, but there's probably 2 easements, and it would probably be a pain in general.

I can just hear Opa V's voice saying
"and tomorrow you cry".
Actually I'm so impressed that you take the kids along on your searching adventures. What a great way of spending time together and them coming along on this journey of hopes and dreams.
And Lizzie did cry. But I think out of more shock than anything. Also her hands went right into the snow. But 30 seconds later, she was back at it again. :)
It brought back memories of Angela and I falling through the big river north of you guys. Except this river was only 6 inches deep. :)
It sure is a blast going with them. I don't think I would do it without them.
Farming question... if land is primarily used for hay, does that mean it's pretty much not good for anything else?

Fantastic Aaron! I love the videos... such a great way to experience a bit of the adventure. Looks like Micah and Lizzie were having great fun as well... though ice is always fun, so I'm not surprised :D
Hahahahahahahahahaha! Funniest video ever. LOVE LOVE LOVE Lizzy's commentary and the whole "yippee I got a soaker" thing. Makes me really miss these crazy kids.

This could be a long winded answer, so give Uncle John a call some time.
There is so simple answer to why people plant hay.
Hi Tante Grace and Uncle John,
One idea I had was to have some cattle/horses that just live on the land, eating the hay and "prepping" the land for other uses. Perhaps if it was a multifield property I could put some more nutritious plants down (alfalfa or something...) on one field, have the cattle graze in that land that year, and use it the next year, and have the cattle on another field. Anyways, I'm probably just talking out of my ass, but it seems to make sense.
Thanks for considering and thinking about my question!
Aaron
